With Teacher Appreciation Week coming up in May, this is a perfect time to thank a teacher who has helped your child be successful. A special way to show your gratitude is through Honor a Teacher (HAT) or Wish List (TWL), sponsored by EdUCate!, the non-profit University City Foundation for Public Schools. Go to WWW.UC-EDUCATE.ORG. When you honor a teacher your special teacher is given a small gift and a certificate of recognition from you and EdUCate! with your personalized message. The monies you donate are used to fund school grants, programs or projects. TWL is a simple way of getting needed supplies into your chosen individual classroom or school by granting a wish. UC teachers have posted specific needs for their classrooms on our EdUCate! website. You can go online and fund all or part of their wish. Teachers are notified when their wish has come true and he or she can purchase the item and be reimbursed immediately by EdUCate! We can’t stress enough how much the teachers appreciate being thanked. Please consider thanking them by supporting our schools.

Thank you to the 60 volunteers who showed up from 9am - noon on Saturday, April 25th to help collect more that 343 lbs of trash from our beautiful Rose Canyon. 97 lbs. of that were recyclable materials! (Over 10 lbs was picked up on the south hillside of our school on Arriba by one of our parents and her daughter!)
We appreciate I Love a Clean San Diego for giving Doyle Elementary a chance to sponsor Rose Canyon for their annual Creek to Bay Clean Up event. We also appreciate the assembly they performed on April 14th, to teach our kids about the impact we have on our environment and action that can be taken to avoid and even reverse that impact. Especially when followed up by an event like this, so they can put what they learned into action !!!
We are so proud of our families that take to heart that our community needs our attention, and for teaching our children to “think globally by acting locally”! If you couldn’t make it to the event, please don’t hesitate to take any opportunity to walk with your child in this, or any one of San Diego’s beautiful natural parks - and bring a trash bag when you go!For more information on events and involvement with I Love a Clean San Diego please visit their website at www.ilacsd.org

Taste of the Triangle 2009 was a spectacular success – EdUCate’s best event ever! Gross proceeds surpassed the $100,000 mark for the first time. More than fifty laptop computers will be put into UC area classrooms this year thanks to your generosity. Held at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines, the setting was pristine and the restaurants were a hit as many high end choices made the evening elegant and special. The largest item ever auctioned at “Taste” was this year’s complete custom kitchen remodel. Thanks goes out to Allison Dorvillier, a Spreckels parent who conceived the idea and coordinated the efforts, general contractor Dave Hansen, whose daughters attend UCHS who volunteered to be the project manager, Matt Martine, owner of Infinity Tile (and dad of UC students), and many others. There were several bidders and the Tom family ultimately landed the prize. The 240 teachers and 5400 public school students of UC thank everyone who supported Taste of the Triangle.
